First introduced in 2017 at the Cannes Yachting Festival, the SX88 motor yacht from Sanlorenzo is the debut ‘social’ crossover yacht from the Italian yard’s SX line. Aimed at a younger generation of yachters, her crossover element stems from a combination of features from an explorer yacht and the classic flybridge motor yacht.
Unlike any other motor yacht constructed by the Italian yard, the 27-meter SX88 marks Sanlorenzo’s step into a new part of the semi-custom market, which has been met with resounding success. Selling 11 units before construction of the first yacht was complete, the SX88 is one of the yard’s most popular semi-custom models. Featuring an original exterior design by Officina Italiana, her high, strong bow lowers toward the stern, giving her impressive seaworthy abilities in all weather conditions. The use of large glass windows across the superstructure highlights her wide, open spaces. Providing an impressive amount of interior space for a vessel in her size range, she features an entirely new interior design by Piero Lissoni. The first collaboration between the two, the architect and interior designer, was inspired by lofts and transformed the main deck into one open space surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows.
Rethinking the traditional layout of a superyacht, the SX88 sees the helm moved to the flybridge to open up the space on the main deck fully. The helm station on the flybridge can be entirely enclosed and air-conditioned, and the large wraparound vertical window can be lowered for ventilation or for better views of the surroundings. Alternatively, future owners can also choose to move the master suite from the lower deck to the main deck to take advantage of the huge windows and views.
The aft area of the main deck features another unique feature of the SX88, home to comfortable, exclusive sofas, coffee tables, and armchairs with glass doors leading towards the outdoor area. Five steps lead to the large beach club, which offers 30 square meters of space to enjoy by the water’s edge. Large enough to accommodate a 4.5-meter tender, jet-ski, and several toys due to the innovative design, the crane to move these watercrafts is cleverly hidden in the prolonged profile of the handrail so as not to ruin the exterior lines of the SX88.
The bow area on the main deck houses a U-shaped sofa for lounging and sun pads for sunbathing. The flybridge remains an open space with room for al-fresco dining and loungers. The lower deck features four or five ensuite cabins depending on her future owner’s choice, an unusual option to include on a motor yacht her size. Each layout option consists of a full beam master suite with green glass panels either on the main deck or lower, a VIP cabin, a double cabin, and a twin cabin, all on the lower deck. Looked after by a crew of three with accommodation on the lower deck forward; she has a good crew-to-guest ratio. Powered by three IPS 1050 Volvo engines, she has a top speed of 23 knots with a cruising speed of 12 knots.
